Your Academic Snapshot provides a quick overview of how your student is doing in each of their courses. Here is the information you can find on the snapshot:

• Last Activity: Your last activity tells you the last time your student logged into the course (not the last date work was submitted). 
• PR: An indicator of their progress engagement in the course (see Progress Indicators below more info).
• Grade: This grade is based on all of the assignments in the course. The grade will continue to increase the more assignments completed and graded. At the end of the term, this is the grade that will be used for your student's transcript.   
• Quality: A measure of how your student has done on graded assignments turned in so far; This helps track how your student is doing on assignments but is not the percent used for your final grade. 
• Duration: The start and end date for the course.
• Progress: This is a visual indicator of how many of your assignments have been submitted and graded (on the left) compared to how many total assignments are in the course (on the right). The red shows what has been submitted and graded and the blue shows what would need to be completed by the end of the week to be on pace. 

The gradebook is one of the best places to go to see the big picture of how many assignments are in the course and what is completed. You can click on the link on the left-hand bar to see your student's gradebooks.

In the gradebook you will see a list of all of the assignments for the course, how many points they are each worth, how many points your student earned, the date your student submitted each assignment, and the date each assignment was graded by the teacher.
 

You will receive a weekly progress report and other progress updates by email throughout your student's time in their course. We hope this helps you keep track of how your student is doing in their course.

Progress Reports: These are sent out once a week and include your student's current grade, quality, and how many assignments have been submitted and graded in their course. This email also includes information on how to reach out to your student's teacher or set up a meeting.

Midpoint Notice: You will receive this email when your student is halfway through their time in the course with information about your student's current progress. This a great chance to note if your student is on track to complete their course by their end date and to reach out for additional support if needed. You may also want to take this opportunity to set up a conference with your student's teacher if you would like to discuss their progress and learning in the course. 

End Date Approaching Notice: You will receive this email two weeks before your student's end date. This email will include your student's current grade and how many assignments they have completed out of the total. If your student is very far behind in their expected progress at this point, we encourage you to reach out to your student's school counselor and the NSO help desk to create a plan. 

Engagement/Attendance Notices: Students' attendance is tracked in their courses based on assignments submitted. Students are expected to submit assignments regularly to stay in attendance and on track in their course. If your student has not submitted assignments for over 5 school days, you will begin receiving outreach from your student's teacher and email notifications from NSO.  

Both the Academic Snapshot and progress emails have indicators to offer a quick way to get a sense of your engagement and progress in your course. More detailed information about your assignment submission can be found under your grade book.

Here are what the progress indicators (PR) mean:

• OK: You have submitted work in the past week and are on pace to complete your course by the end date
• MW: You have submitted work in the past week but are falling behind in pacing
• NR1: You have not submitted an assignment for one week 
• NR2: You have not submitted an assignment for two weeks
• NR3: You have not submitted an assignment in three weeks and are at risk of being withdrawn from the course. 

Your NSO Guardian Account was automatically created when your student created their NSO Account with the email address they provided. Your username (email address) and password were emailed to you after your student created their account.

Login to your NSO Guardian Account

• Enter the username (email) and password provided to you in the welcome email.
• If you for forgot your password, click on "forgot username or password" and enter your email address.

Our aim at NSO is to work as a team to ensure you student has the support they need to be successful in their NSO course. Here are some of the best ways to support your student at home:

• Stay updated on your student's current progress in their course through regularly viewing the Gradebook in your account and progress communications. 
• Reach out to your student's teacher or the NSOhelpdesk@district287.org if you notice that your student is struggling with course content, technical issues, pacing or any other concerns. We are here to partner with you and your student.

If there is an issue that may impact your student's learning, please reach out to the NSOhelpdesk@district287.org and ask to speak with one of our School Counselors. They will work with you and your enrolling school to determine the steps to make sure your student can engage in learning in the way that will work best for your student.
