IEP and 504 Supports
Individualized Support at NSO
We are dedicated to providing students with the tools and support they need to succeed.
How We Collaborate to Support Students
When requesting a course at NSO, students can indicate if they have an IEP or 504. We will ask the student's school to send us their IEP or 504 documentation so that we can review the information and make a plan to facilitate their accommodations and modifications based on guidance from their school. The student's school will continue to be the holder of the IEP or 504 and will provide case management, monitor goals and objectives, provide direct service minutes, hold IEP meetings, etc. We will collaborate with the school to ensure the components of a student’s individualized education plan (IEP) are met in the NSO course.
We deliver a multi-tiered model of support for all students and maintain the capacity for specialized indirect services for students who have IEP accommodations and modifications. These indirect services provide a bridge between the enrolling district and the online learning provider to ensure that student IEPs are followed across both learning settings.
Course Resources and Support Systems at NSO
At NSO, we understand that every student has unique learning needs, which is why we have designed our courses and support systems to address individual preferences and needs. From comprehensive course resources to communication channels and flexible timelines, we are committed to ensuring that students have everything they need to excel in their studies.
Course resources:
All the necessary information, including notes, rubrics, and examples, is available within our courses. Our courses are designed to break down tasks into smaller parts for easier comprehension and completion. Longer assignments are often divided into manageable segments or parts. Directions are visual and available for review at any time. Utilize technology tools like text-to-speech or voice recording for flexibility in completing assignments.
Communication:
Each student gets personalized communication and feedback. Instructors offer feedback through written comments on assignments and communication via emails, phone calls, and text messages. Support staff, such as shared program paraprofessionals, also reach out to offer support.
Timelines:
Students can work at their own pace and take breaks as needed. Tools are provided to assist students with organization and pacing. Extensions for extra time are available and can be requested as needed.
