Fall & Spring Course Requests Open

Requests for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 courses are now open!

Meet your learning goals this school year with course and registration choices that fit your needs. Replace a course during your school day, catch up on credits, or advance your learning with our large variety of courses taught by dedicated, licensed Minnesota teachers. 

Enrollment stays open through mid-April, so you can choose the start and end dates, course, and credits that work for your schedule and graduation requirements. Check out our Important Dates to help you create your learning plan. 

Celebrating 20 Years!

In 2001, Northern Star Online (NSO) was founded as a collaboration between public schools working together to provide high quality online learning to students in Minnesota. 

Throughout the last two decades, we have expanded our course offerings and learning options while remaining committed to providing high quality online learning in a way that works for students and schools. NSO has worked with over 400 schools and is the largest online public school in the state, operating as a responsive, collaborative partner in online learning.

New Courses for Fall 2024

We're always building and adding new courses to our curriculum, and this year is no exception. Here's a few of the upcoming courses that will available for Fall 2024.

We have five courses designed specifically for middle school students interested in studying online:

  • English 7

This 7th grade core English course will equip students to express themselves clearly and confidently through various forms of writing and critical thinking as you develop your voice and perspective as a writer and thinker

  • English 8

This 8th grade core English course is designed to enhance students' skills as a thoughtful writers and critical thinkers, while also fostering empathy and understanding of others' experiences

  • Math 7

Students will enhance conceptual understanding and computational fluency through discovery-based learning and interactive exercises that introduce geometry and probability/statistics concepts while preparing students for Algebra 1.

  • Algebra 1

​​​​​​​Build a strong conceptual understanding of linear equations, functions, and inequalities through interactive exercises and real-world application, enhancing both computational fluency and problem-solving skills.

  • Imagine That! A Journey through Creativity

​​​​​​​Students will flex their creative muscles as they explore different types of problem-solving approaches through STEAM activities.

We've also added two high school courses to our catalog.

  • Korean 2

​​​​​​​In this second year Korean course, students will develop intermediate Korean language skills, expand vocabulary, refine grammar, and enhance conversation abilities.

  • Design Basics Semester B
